Tucson Events: The Calendar That Runs the City
Tucson's year has a rhythm, and it's set by a handful of signature events — some of them unlike anything else in America. Plan visits (and house hunting) around them.
Winter — peak season
Tucson Gem, Mineral & Fossil Showcase (late Jan–mid Feb) — dozens of shows take over hotels and tents citywide; the largest event of its kind in the world, and the reason February flights and rentals spike. Tucson Rodeo — La Fiesta de los Vaqueros (Feb) — schools literally close for "rodeo break." Winterhaven Festival of Lights (Dec) — a whole neighborhood becomes a drive-through light show.
Spring
Tucson Festival of Books (March, on the UA campus) and the Fourth Avenue Street Fair (spring edition) anchor the season, along with the Pima County Fair in April.
Fall
Tucson Meet Yourself (Oct) — the folklife festival that eats like a world tour. All Souls Procession (early Nov) — tens of thousands walk at dusk honoring the dead; moving, communal, unmistakably Tucson. El Tour de Tucson (Nov) — one of America's big charity rides, drawing cyclists from everywhere.
Year-round
UA Wildcats sports set the social calendar (basketball is a civic religion), the Tucson Symphony and Arizona Theatre Company run full seasons, and Second Saturdays downtown keeps the street scene going monthly.
